Tilo Werner

Tilo Werner trained at the Ernst Busch Hochschule, Berlin, and joined Thomas Ostermeier’s company at the Deutsches Theater’s Baracke, where notable productions included Brecht’s Mann ist Mann and Maeterlinck’s The Blue Bird. He also performed at the Gorky Theatre in Hauptmann’s Rats and Schiller’s Love and Intrigue. In 2000 he followed Ostermeier to the Schaubühne, Berlin, where his roles included the title role in Ubu Roi as well as leading parts in contemporary plays like Enda Walsh’s Misterman and Mayenburg’s Parasites. He joined Krétakör Színház after participating in a workshop with Árpád Schilling and some Krétakör actors on István Tasnádi’s Phaidra, which opened at the Salzburg Festival earlier this month; he played Priest/Master/Doctor. His first role with the Company was in Fatherland, My All (in English); he has subsequently appeared in four productions in Hungarian: The Seagull (as Trigorin), Woyzeck (as Drum Major) at the Oerol Festival, Holland, The Nibelung Residency, Ice (as Vor ) and BLACKland. He is one of the three actors playing different roles in Árpád Schilling’s Burgtheater production of Hamlet3.
