The Weir – premier held by the Harag György Company

The award-winning Irish play by Conor McPherson's The Weir was staged by the Harag György Company of the Northern Theatre of Satu Mare and will be performed on Friday, February 26 from 7 p.m..

The performance itself was ready for presentation as early as the end of 2020, but due to epidemiological regulations and illnesses, the company was forced to postpone the presentation.

The performance is directed by Ovidiu Caița, artistic director of the Romanian-speaking Mihai Raicu Company of the theatre, who singled out the play years ago.

„There are no small or big roles in this performance. Everyone is the protagonist. Individuals who are not good or bad, but simple people - just like us - with good and bad qualities. They are lonely, but they form a community in the pub where the performance takes place. I want the theatre to be such a place. A refuge where we can rebuild our community in our current crumbling society.” - says the director in connection with the performance.

In an out-of-the-world village in Ireland - from which mostly everyone is trying to escape - locals are retreating to the shelter of a secluded pub to try to evade the time that lurks in solitude. Escaping from the desolation of their homes and the uneventfulness of their everyday lives, they involuntarily begin to tell stories: they evoke a world of ghosts and fairies with their creepy stories of entertaining each other and themselves on the cold nights, always playing with hissing winds. The pub is an endangered microcosm and one of the last epicenters of society. To a world that has an elementary need for tales, as the only pledge of survival. Storytellers who seemingly merely evoke their own fairy or horror tales, involuntarily confess themselves through their stories and anecdotes: about their own fears, dreams, falls, doubts. But if we listen to them carefully, all of a sudden the most important fairy-tale lesson and realization awakens in us: in fact, every story is about humanity and evokes the spirit of the truest, profound humanism instead of seemingly themed ghosts.

The ensemble is: Rappert-Vencz Gábor, Orbán Zsolt, Nagy Csongor Zsolt, Gaál Gyula és Bogár Barbara. The set and costume designer Anda Pop, literary editor Bessenyei Gedő István, light designer Lucian Moga, musical colleague Manfrédi Annamária, stage manager Szabó Ritta, prompter Kófity Annamária.
